<p style="font-family: Times;">Jordyn Hudson – a social activist, tech entrepreneur and an award-winning filmmaker – is a junior at Spelman College, where she is pursuing a degree in documentary filmmaking. During her time at Spelman, she has achieved high academic success, while serving on the First-Year Class Council as Class Justice; participating in Spelprenuer, the college’s co-curricular entrepreneurship education initiative; serving as the 2022-2023 Sophomore Class Council President and now serving as the Director of Special Events as a member of the school’s Student Government Association.</p> <p style="font-family: Times;">Jordyn’s interest in documentary filmmaking stems from personal experiences that led her to focus on diversity, equity and storytelling when she was in high school. Knowing that racial and social injustices needed to be addressed on the campus of her high school, she developed the institution’s first diversity and inclusion initiative. She also launched Shape the Culture (www.shapethecultureco.com), a social impact company that created a digital platform to highlight the good work young people are doing to impact and move the country forward. As a part of her work with the company, she produced and directed a documentary film, Shape the Culture: Then and Now, which was recently featured at the BronzeLens Film Festival and the Sidewalk Film Festival. Her second film, Shape the Culture: Through Our Vote, has won two Bronze Telly awards in the general non-broadcast and student categories and is a Gold dotComm award winner in the documentary category.</p> <p style="font-family: Times;">Through her work with Shape the Culture, Jordyn has tackled difficult subjects such as the impact of racial injustice on the mental health of young people and the effects of race on justice in America with Attorney Benjamin Crump. In 2020, Shape the Culture hosted the “Be the Change” Unity Rally in the same park where children in the 1960s marched for justice and equality in Birmingham, Alabama – Jordyn’s hometown. She has leveraged her filmmaking and storytelling background to enhance her participation in internship and educational initiatives with Warner Music Group’s HBCU Immersion Program. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, Jordyn intends to apply to graduate school to further her knowledge of and interest in entertainment and progress toward a career in the field.</p>
