I’m Hibak Mohamed, a multi-hyphenate creative who is passionate about making a lasting impact and influence on the marketing and advertising industry. I’m currently a creative at Leo Burnett, where I work on automotive clients GMC and Buick. As a strategic thinker, I enjoy translating cultural trends and insights into creative ideas. Through photography and writing, I’ve been able to show up authentically, discover stories, and be the true composer of my own narrative. Through my creative pursuits, I've found identity and authenticity; through advertising, I've found the power of impact and storytelling.

Oftentimes, in industry spaces it is common for most people to make themselves smaller, and put themselves into boxes. I rejected all notions that I should be happy with a spot at the table. My voice and unique insight on life and beyond have been a driving force in everything I do. Whenever I am presented with a creative brief/ask, I ask myself, how can I contribute my outlook and experiences to this assignment? What ways can I challenge brands to think outside of the box? How can I showcase that there is a need for a multicultural perspective? When I first entered this industry I made a promise to myself to use my voice and ideas to make an impact. I’ve been able to tell the stories of artists who have shared their art with the world. I’ve also been able to partake and contribute in campaigns that make people think differently about the coverage that women’s sports needs today. But, most importantly I’ve been able to rise up by acting as a bridge between brands and creatives of color, fostering partnerships that would’ve made my younger self proud to see come into fruition.

The reason I joined the advertising industry was because the ads I was seeing were not showcasing my outlook of life. I was not seeing black women or muslim women in the things I was consuming. As a creative person, being a consumer is the first way we are exposed to things. That is where most of my insights come from. When I’m not hard at work, I spend my time deeply reflecting on the current state of my favorite NBA team, losing draws on the SNKRS app, and binge-watching my favorite tv shows. My experiences have equipped me with a unique outlook on life. I hope to become an innovative leader and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the ad industry, to help illustrate a more colorful picture in a very monochromatic industry.
