Salut! I'm Sydney Jones, and I am a dedicated learner and strategic communicator in many divisions of my personal and professional life. I was born at the turn of the century, a proud "Gen Zer," and I was often told by my great-grandmother, a woman wiser than her third-grade level of education, that I was delivered into this world sunny-side up, my face appeareing before anything else. By the book of this old wives' tale, I was born with a veil, which signified that I had seen and heard things before my physical birth. I was bound to be clairvoyant. I was destined to be intelligent. I was going to be a force to be reckoned with, and a handful to deal with.  I've certainly lived up to my great-grandmother's prophecy, having exhibited elements of her vision since I was a very young age. Although I was well liked by many of my peers, I always knew I was different. Not only was I the only black girl in a slew of white kids at every school I attended, I also felt different in an inexplicable way. I didn't have the luxury to be as good as the people around me; instead, I was riddled with the burden to be better, to be bolder, to be brash and bullish in my pursuit of purpose.  Just when I thought I did not need another prophecy over my life, at the age of 15, a woman at a church retreat deemed me to be a warrior. I had never been called a warrior before. High maintenance? Yes. Stubborn to no avail? Possibly. A warrior? Now that was new. Now 25 years since my great-grandmother first laid eyes on me, and many moons after being called a warrior, I feel these words resignate with me more than ever. I am constantly jonesing for more in my life, fighting for my dreams, and conscious of my calling to help others around me to feel accepted and included in every space that they enter. Under the prayers of my great-grandmother, and the guidance of my loving village, I attended the University of Florida for my undergraduate and graduate career, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations and a Master's Degree in Global Stratgeic Communication with a concentration in French studies. While there, I became a published poetess and harnessed my passion for poetry in a new, avant-garde way, using the ever-changing societal landscape as my muse. I am currently an Account Executive at Burson Global, where I am an integral part of the AstraZeneca Oncology team, working alongside some of the most brilliant minds in the industry who are striving to eliminate cancer as a cause of death. Daily, I am finding that like a warrior, I am unequivocally primed for what is ahead. I am resilient. I plan to equip myself with words from the wise to catapult into spaces that I am destined to be in.
