Marketing Researcher
About

Hey there! I’m Dr. Brandale Mills Cox—a researcher, communications pro, training facilitator, and professor. I’m also the founder and principal of Inclusive Market Research Group, where I help brands create inclusive and culturally sensitive market research strategies. Through my work, I’ve led trainings on inclusive communications and partnered with nonprofits, government agencies, and pharmaceutical companies to develop diverse engagement strategies using insights from multicultural audiences. I also help organizations build DEI strategic plans that foster a sense of belonging and create more inclusive workplaces.

Higher education has always been a big part of my journey. I’ve worked with community colleges and historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) as a tenure-track professor, graduate program advisor, and curriculum developer. Right now, I’m an Assistant Professor at Howard University in the Communications Studies Department, where I teach Public Relations and Public Affairs. Before that, I served as the Director of Communications for the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office, handling media outreach, organizing press conferences, and serving as the office’s spokesperson.

My passion for diverse representation drives everything I do. It’s what inspired my book, Black Women Filmmakers and Black Love on Screen, which explores how Black love is depicted in films directed by Black women and why Hollywood needs more inclusive storytelling. My recent research on Millennial mothers has been featured on The Grio and The Bump.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Print Journalism from the University of New Mexico and my master’s and doctorate from Howard University in Mass Communications and Media Studies and Communication, Culture and Media Studies. In 2021, I was honored as one of Albuquerque Business First’s “40 under 40” leaders. I’m also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

These days, I split my time between Albuquerque and Washington, D.C., where I juggle academia, research, and family life with my husband, our four-year-old daughter, and our two-year-old son.
