About
<p>As a professor, I am intensely invested in turning complex theories and ideas into accessible, digestible, and captivating lessons for students and professionals committed to recognizing the humanity of others and themselves. As a scholar working at the intersections of communication, critical race studies, and critical hip hop studies, I orchestrate spaces that rely on interdisciplinary, imaginative, and honest orientations to discussions about inclusion and equity. With 8+ years of experience in public speaking and teaching, curriculum design and development, and research ranging from intercultural communication and discourse analysis to African American Studies, my work has been recognized by organizational divisions of the National Communication Association and International Communication Association including African American Communication and Culture, Language and Social Interaction, and Ethnicity and Race in Communication, and offices, centers, and departments at the University of Colorado Boulder. </p> <p> </p> <p>In 2020, I developed and taught the first course on anti-black racism in The College of Media, Communication, and Information at the University of Colorado Boulder: Race, Anti-Black Racism, and Communication. This course and its impact was highlighted in the college’s premier publication, CMCI Now Magazine. Additionally, I have taught master classes on issues including anti-Black racism for companies such as HmntyCntrd, and have co-facilitated discussions on equity, diversity, and inclusion for the University of Colorado Boulder’s Office of the Provost. As a scholar-teacher, I have delivered several lectures and conference presentations, and was invited to give the Juneteenth Keynote for the University of Colorado system in 2021 and 2024 and am the inaugural Faculty Fellow for the University of Colorado Boulder's Center for African and African American Studies. In 2024, I was named as CMCI's Faculty Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to lead its Inclusive Pedagogy Series and forward the college's commitment to systemic transformation.</p>
