About

My neighbor, Vera, saved my life. Although I grew up in a very loving home, life as a child was extremely unstable. My family had just immigrated to Dallas, Texas from Nigeria, and faced significant challenges, including discrimination, job rejections, homelessness. As a result, my siblings and I often went hungry for days at a time. To distract myself from the hunger pains, I could often be found tucked away on our front porch, completely engrossed by a novel. Books were my vehicle to take me to another place, and that place was my imagination. One day, I heard music coming from the house next door. Drawn to the unqiue sound, I curiously made my way over to the house and discovered the door was unlocked. I sheepishly walked inside and discovered a lady sitting gracefully on a stool in her kitchen, playing the violin in the most angelic way I’d ever seen. She turned and saw me, and instead of turning me away, she invited me in, offering me snacks and introducing me to her children.

From there, the rest was history. Every day after school, my siblings and I went to Vera's house, excited to play with her kids and join her for dinner. For 12 years straight she gave me violin lessons, igniting a profound love for music. From there, I knew I always wanted to be involved with music in some capacity. I didn't know it then, but Vera single-handedly changed the trajectory of my life.

Years later, after graduating from the University of Virginia and completing an athletic career playing Division I volleyball, I reconnected with music professionally. I joined Spotify as the first black member of the Content Partnerships team, where I focus on building bridges and community for diverse creators and artists.

Throughout the years, I’ve launched and championed global campaigns, propelling creatives into unexplored spaces. From spearheading groundbreaking initiatives like New York and Milan Fashion Week, to amplifying Afrobeats in West Africa, I strive to be a force for transformative storytelling. Before Spotify, I lent my talents to HBO's award-winning creative marketing team, contributing to hits like 'Watchmen,' 'Insecure,' and 'Euphoria”, winning an Emmy in 2019.

Today, I am still hungry, but in the best way possible. I am hungry to illustrate the cultural intersections that define our world while reshaping the distribution of black content. Outside of work I find pure joy in the simple pleasures. I’m currently challenging myself to cook the national dish of every country this year (this week I’m on Sri Lanka!). I also love to travel, spend quality time with my friends and family, and enjoy what life has to offer. I aim to be a beacon for those around me, reflecting the same light that Vera shone on me, transforming adversity into opportunity for the next generation.
