About

My name is Gregory Smith, and I am a self-taught independent filmmaker who resides in Dallas, Texas. When I say self-taught, I mean a student of life; conversations and networking have been my education within storytelling and contribute to many of my stories.

A little about me: I had humble beginnings in Saginaw, Michigan; it allowed me many opportunities to dream. Growing up helping my Dad build, create, and work with his hands at a young age taught me that life has no limitations. I live by a blueprint, always planning, growing, and finding ways to improve storytelling. As we know, life doesn't always give you lemons, so you must find a way to make it your own. Learning from my Dad, I built and manifested a treehouse for enjoyment as a young kid, which was the start of me building upon my passions.

After living in Arkansas during my early childhood, my mother moved me to Hope, Arkansas, where everything truly changed for me. Transitioning from a city like Saginaw to a smaller, slower-paced environment propelled me on a journey of imagination. I used the great outdoors to escape, and with fewer activities, I found myself dreaming big about my future and the broader world outside of Hope.

Fast forward, I attended college in Arkansas, playing on the college football team, only to discover that I loved capturing significant moments, whether photos or videos. Eventually, I left Arkansas, pursuing my interest in film, saving money, and developing a silent short film. Over the years, I've continued to perfect my craft, improving daily. Being an independent filmmaker is no easy task, but it is possible. My life experiences manifested into me creating my own film company EDGEWOOD. The mission behind EDGEWOOD is to foster a small team with big ambitions that aims to connect and collaborate with others to create diverse, authentic, and meaningful stories.

I hope I've provided enough insight about myself. I'll leave with a quote from one of my favorite actors and filmmakers, Nate Parker, that motivates me to keep pushing everyday: "Identify your niche and dominate it. And when I say dominate, I just mean work harder than anyone else could work at it".
